So far I have read up to page 80 of A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. At this point, Salva has not only reached his destination of going to the refugee camp but has lived there for years and is now in his twenties. Sadly, The camp had to close down and people were being forced to leave by the use of bullets. After survivng having to cross a lake full of alligators and being shot at, Salva begins his walk to the next refugee camp in Kenya while being followed by a growing number of boys. As Salva leads the boys to Kenya he is reminded of his brother back home.
The novel Starts with Salva being a child and continues to narrate the events of his life as he grows older, which makes the structure of this book chronological. Besides being in chronological order, the story is based around simplicity with the use of description in only key events. Throught my reading It is also clear that the author is using a third person limited point of view which is expected since it is not her personal expierience. One can tell the point of view through quotes like " Kuol isn't that age anymore- he is a teenager now!"(pg. 80), where the reader is brought into the thoughts of only the main character. By using both inner thoughts and a limited point of view it becomes easier for the reader, like myself, to become that character and share the same emotions.
