I am on page 19 of A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park- this is where Salva is once again left to fend for himself. In the beginning Salva was rushed out of his school to escape the soldiers fighting in southern Sudan. In doing this he had to leave his family behind and join a group who later abandoned him during the night. He then came across a lady who let him stay with her for three days. On the third day she informed him that she is leaving because all of the water had dried up and she does not want him to follow her because it would attract attention from the soldiers.
Throughout the novel the author portrays Salva's inner thoughts by using ethos with quotes like "what will I do, where will I go? The words repeated themselves a thousand times in his head" (pg.19). From this statement it is clear that he is in constant reminder of his blurred future and what it may hold, that is, if he even survives. From this statement alone, I could feel his fear and inner pain from having to leave his family behind and follow a random group of people who made it clear that he was unwanted.
